TUT122382 - SAP HANA on KVM Best Practices

Session Speakers
Session Description

"Achieving near physical performance of a large CPU and memory-intensive workload like SAP HANA in a virtual machine requires monitoring, analyzing, and adjusting many subsystems throughout the software stack. The virtualization host operating system, the configuration describing a virtual machine and its virtual hardware, and the operating system running inside the virtual machine all require tuning to achieve performance comparable to a physical machine. In this session we will explore best practices related to running SAP HANA and similar workloads in a KVM virtual machine. These guidelines and recommendations were collected while certifying SAP HANA on KVM. We’ll discuss optimizations for the CPU, memory, and IO subsystems of both the KVM host and virtual machine. Attendees will learn about the various configuration controls available to improve the performance of their large workloads when running in a KVM virtual machine."
